PedSafety was the first to adopt touchless actuation into accessible pedestrian signals (APS) and pedestrian push buttons (PPBs) using active infrared sensors. With a simple hand wave, pedestrians can place a call without physical contact. Unlike microwave sensors, our active infrared sensors use infrared light to precisely reflect a hand, preventing false calls from unintentional motion or adverse weather conditions like rain, snow, or hail.
The Wave product line features a carefully calibrated detection range of 1-6 inches, significantly more precise than competing sensors that detect up to 20 inches away. This precise range, verified through rigorous testing, minimizes false calls while maintaining reliable performance. The sensor operates independently from the mechanical button, offering pedestrians two distinct ways to place a call.
