WiAAPS® Wave

Product Overview:

The WiAAPS® Wave is a versatile networked Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) that adapts to your existing infrastructure. The system can utilize existing 2-wire field wiring for pedestrian push buttons or draw power directly from pedestrian signal heads through SPI for a true 0-wire system – ideal for locations with damaged conduits or limited wire space. Each touchless WiAPB (APS push button) delivers comprehensive accessibility features including audible, visual, and tactile cues, plus extended press and clearance phase indicators, ensuring full compliance with the latest MUTCD (December 2023), PROWAG (September 2023), ADA, and TAC standards. The WiAAPS® Wave additionally features our wave touchless technology allowing calls to be placed with the wave of a hand. Calls are detected by an active infrared sensor as infrared light precisely reflects off the hand. This ensures that calls are initiated only when intended. The touchless feature operates independently from the physical button and provides pedestrians with a second form of actuation. All system settings, audio files, and configurations are centrally managed through the WiAAPS® Controller (WiAPC) or Card Rack (WiAPC-C), accessible through ethernet connection.

About the Product:

The WiAAPS® Wave system consists of four key components: the touchless WiAPB (accessible push button), the WiAPC/WiAPC-C (control unit), Single or Double Terminal Board (for power distribution), and the antenna (enables wireless communication). Supporting up to 16 WiAPBs across 8 pedestrian phases, the WiAAPS® Wave is particularly effective for complex intersections. It operates on a secure 900MHz narrow-band radio with mesh network protocol, ensuring reliable wireless communication between the controller and each push button. Every system arrives factory-configured but can be customized on-site through our APS programming software. The web-based interface enables remote monitoring, real-time parameter adjustments, direct file uploads to pedestrian stations, and report generation – all without requiring physical visits to the intersection.

Touchless Technology

Global awareness raised by the COVID-19 pandemic spurred us into action. PedSafety was the first to employ touchless actuation in APS (accessible pedestrian signals) and PPBs (pedestrian push buttons) by utilizing active infrared sensors to detect motion in our products. We’ve designed and implemented touch-free solutions at intersections to curtail the transmission of germs and viruses, ultimately enhancing pedestrian safety.

Our innovative approach incorporates an infrared sensor for contactless activation. This surpasses the technology of conventional sensors, as infrared light precisely reflects off the hand, ensuring calls are initiated only when intended. This technology ensures that no false calls will be made from inclement weather conditions such as rain, hail, or snow. Pedestrians can now request to cross by simply waving their hand in front of the wave icon, eliminating the need to physically press a button.
